ULB: BATir at the service of the UDI-A

The BATir service participated in the University Development and Innovation Africa international training program, defined between eight partner universities in Europe and Africa, under the Erasmus + program. The results of the project received a very positive final external evaluation in April 2020. ULB’s BATir service participated in the University Development and Innovation Africa (UDI-A) international training program defined between four European universities and four African universities, co-financed by the Erasmus + program of the European Union. Project results include cascading training of key personnel from African partners and the establishment of Centers for Academic Development and Innovation comprising dedicated office spaces with new IT infrastructure. A first generation of African professors have been trained in this program through a two-week immersion with a European partner and through social entrepreneurship courses at the NOVA University of Lisboa. Upon their return to their home institutions, they trained a new generation of key personnel locally as the next link in a chain of academic development and sustainable innovation. BATir notably welcomed eight African partners in the field of engineering in March 2018 and in 2020 Prof. P. Berke visited the two Angolan partner universities to give an interactive seminar on the pedagogical approach of project-based learning (based on the experience at EPB) and to organize a one-week workshop on drafting projects to apply for their funding. The UDI-A project was successfully closed in April 2020 and its implementation and results received a very positive external evaluation.
